Ricky Gervais’s secret past: He was a pop singer?

January 25, 2011 · 0 comments

Looks like there are plenty of jokes that can be told on comedian Ricky Gervais. The Hollywood elite who Gervais destroyed at the Golden Globes last week can now point the finger and laugh at him. At one time Ricky had a record deal and was on his way to becoming the next Billy Idol.

In 1982 during his senior year at University, Gervais and friend Bill Macrae formed a new wave synth pop duo in England called ‘Seona Dancing.’ So before Gervais was insulting movie stars and honing his comedic chops, he was quite seriously pursuing a career as a sex symbol and Billy-Idol-style singer.

‘Seona Dancing’ went on to be signed to London Records and released two singles: ‘More to Lose’ and ‘Bittersweet.’

After watching the video I think Ricky’s group was more like a Wham! Imagine if Ricky had never got fat and therefor funny by default, he would have been the next George Michaels. Well that is kind of funny isn’t it.
