A decent $20.3 million estimated opening for No Strings Attached and some decent holds in the top five wasn’t enough to stop 2011′s early box office slump. The Green Hornet, for example, took a 31% drop in ticket sales coming in at 18.1 million and dropping to number two.
The Dilemma also took a huge drop in ticket sales from last week, closing in at 9.9 million for the weekend, but still holding on to the number three spot. Two smaller films The Kings Speech and True Grit bring in the forth and fifth spots, closing the week with some very low numbers.
The good news for the weekend is that Natalie Portman is in the top 10 with two films, with her Oscar buzz-worthy film The Black Swan coming in at number 6. This will help the actress remain on the minds of the Academy, but it is not known if the sexy RomCom will help or hurt her chances.
Here is the top 10:
1. No Strings Attached: $20.3M
2. The Green Hornet 3D: $18.1M (-31%),
3. The Dilemma: $9.9M (-33%),
4. The King’s Speech: $9.1M,
5. True Grit: $7.9M,
6. Black Swan: $6.2M,
7. Little Fockers: $4M,
8. The Fighter: $4M,
9. Tron: The Legacy 3D: $3.5M,
10. Yogi Bear 3D: $3.5M,
